Debate

“Are Alternative Proteins The Future of Food?” by SNF Agora Institute’s University Debate Initiative

Date: Thursday, October 12

Time: 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM EDT

Location: Mason Hall Auditorium, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD

Imagine a future where the steak on your plate didn’t come from an animal, but was instead crafted in a lab… Is this the solution to ensuring sustainable, ethical, and nutritious food for all, or a detour from resolving the true issues in our global food systems?

Join us for a thought-provoking debate, co-hosted by the Johns Hopkins Science Policy & Diplomacy Group (JHSPDG), SNF Agora Institute, and the Alt Protein Project at Johns Hopkins University. Engage with experts and peers as we explore the complexities, challenges, and potential pathways forward in the world of alternative proteins and food sustainability.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Chris Bryant

Dr. Chris Bryant is a psychologist at the University of Bath in the UK. He specializes in the topic of consumer acceptance of cultivated meat.

In this talk, Dr. Bryant will discuss the social science behind animal-free diets and share his thoughts on promising policies to advance the protein transition, dealing with the transition for farmers, the role of intellectual property, and more!
